Pre-proposal and Problem Statement Memo
Due October 21 at 8:30 a.m.
In a memo addressed to me, write a document that explains your initial plans for carrying out the proposal assignment. This memo should serve as a rough outline, identifying the major tenets of your proposal. At a minimum, your memo should address the following:
Audience. Include a description of the person or organization you are addressing. Who are you writing to? Why is this person (or organization) the most appropriate, given your problem? What does your audience value and how might that play into how you write your proposal?
Problem. Provide your working problem statement. What is the dissonance or tension you have identified? Why is working toward a solution important? Who will this impact and is the problem significant enough to garner a response?
Support. Include a summary of some the research and support you plan on incorporating. Will you rely on published academic research, news media articles, statistics, interviews, or a combination of these? What might your audience find compelling?
Rhetorical Tactics. Describe how you plan to make your proposal persuasive. What strategies will you employ to make your proposal persuasive?
